Returning to Session
Session has begun and I am happy to say that I’ve hit the ground running. I have been placed on the Senate Appropriations Committee; Commerce, Consumer Protection, Energy and the Environment Committee; the Fiscal Oversight Committee; and I will once again chair the Transportation, Infrastructure and Public Safety Committee. I am so honored to have the opportunity to serve in this capacity and am so appreciative to be on these committees. In addition, two of my bills were heard in committee this week. One of the first steps a bill must go through. The first I’d like to talk about is Senate Bill 44 which was heard by the Transportation, Infrastructure and Public Safety Committee. This bill outlines statutes to protect children, fight rioting, prevent stunt driving and help keep our schools safer. It also establishes a board to manage the St. Louis Police department and ensure there are enough officers and they receive adequate compensation. I believe this bill will help make St. Louis, and all of Missouri, a safer place. In addition, the Families, Seniors and Health Committee heard my Senate Bill 45. This bill opens up options for people by establishing the right to choose where you go for your pharmaceuticals without constraint from your insurance or pharmacy benefits manager. This bill also helps level the playing field between pharmacies by not allowing a pharmacy benefits manager to charge a different amount to different pharmacies, a practice I believe has been hurting local pharmacies throughout the state. Finally, it establishes that any money used to pay for medication will count towards cost-sharing and out-of-pocket maximum requirements no matter who pays for them. I believe this bill will help patients receive and pharmacies provide better service. If you have any questions, please reach out to my office. I will continue to keep you updated on the progress of my bills as they move through the legislative process. Senator Travis Fitzwater serves residents of Callaway, Lincoln, Montgomery, Pike and a portion of St. Charles counties in the Missouri Senate. For more information about Sen.
