Ensuring Safety in Schools
Hello from your favorite Senator Angela Mosley! I’m happy to speak with you once again and update you on the progress of my legislation.
The Education Committee heard my Senate Bill 42 this week. This bill requires every public school in St. Louis City and St. Louis County provide a safety assessment outlining where school weaknesses are found, specifically as they relate to a potential school shooter crisis. The Department of Education and Secondary Education would then work with the school to shore up these weaknesses and keep students safe. I cannot stand by while permanent scars are formed on the bodies and in the minds of children. I believe this is a critical step to finding solutions for the growing threat of school shootings. I appreciate everyone who came to the Capitol to share their experiences with gun violence in schools and urge stronger safety measures.
I also appreciate Dr. Jazell Thomas and the number of school counselors from the district in St. Louis City and County who came to discuss their fears of future U.S Immigration and Customs Enforcement policies and other topics related to diversion and equity.
Another issue facing families is the childcare crisis. That is why this past Saturday I was a part of a community child care event! There were about 20 child care providers present. I was there to discuss childcare needs with parents and caregivers to more deeply understand the problems facing our community and discuss ways I can help alleviate this problem within my role as your Senator.
A quick youth spotlight! I had the pleasure of meeting an amazing young entrepreneur, Zara Daugherty, who is already a published author at such a young age! Her book, Broken Promise, is a must-read, and I want to help her reach new heights.
