Senator Sandy Crawford's Capitol Report for the Week of Feb. 24, 2025

    Feb. 27, 2025

We have had another productive week in Jefferson City, and I am happy to report that two more of my bills, Senate Bill 3 and Senate Bill 98, have moved forward and are now before the Missouri House of Representatives.

Senate Bill 3 makes several changes to the Missouri Department of Revenue regarding contract license offices throughout the state. In order to keep our smaller, more rural offices open, the state needs to consider how much the cost of running a business has increased. Senate Bill 98 addresses the dramatic increase in fraud and scams plaguing Missouri citizens and seeks to add a tool for law enforcement to ensure they can prosecute these crimes even as technology and payment types evolve.

Other bills that passed out of the Senate:

  • Senate Bill 4 ensures reliable energy sources replace power plants before they are shut down by the federal government and modernizes utility investment rules to keep costs predictable for consumers.
  • Senate Bill 10 repeals expiration dates on the construction manager-at-risk and design-build methods for certain construction projects. It also seeks to end sunsets on certain statutes, including the protection of female sports and Missouri Save Adolescents from Experimentation (SAFE) Act.
  • Senate Bill 22 creates new provisions relating to the treatment of summary statements prepared by the Missouri General Assembly for ballot measures.
  • Senate Bill 63 allows homeschoolers to participate in their local school sports and other activities regulated by the statewide activities association.
  • Senate Bill 68 requires schools to report to the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education threats and incidents regarding the safety of the students at school. In addition, it requires schools to adopt cell phone policies.

The 2025 regular legislative session is nearing the halfway point. I will keep you updated as session continues.
