Senator Angela Mosley’s Senate Bill 378 to be Heard in Committee
JEFFERSON CITY — State Sen. Angela Mosley, D-Florissant, on Wednesday, March 26, will present Senate Bill 378 to the Judiciary and Civil and Criminal Jurisprudence at 8 a.m. in the State Capitol Senate Lounge.
This bill establishes the Office of State Ombudsman for Inmates in the Custody of the Missouri Department of Corrections. This office would ensure inmates have information regarding their rights, as well as review and report on correction facilities’ living conditions and procedures. A report detailing the results of each facility inspection would be given to the governor, attorney general, Senate pro tempore, speaker of the Missouri House of Representatives and the director of the Department of Corrections.
“It is time correction facilities focus on rehabilitation rather than simply punishment,” Sen. Mosley said. “Inmates are not animals and should not be treated as such. They are people and they have rights. This bill will help verify that those rights are being upheld”
If you are interested in being a witness for this bill please contact Sen. Mosley’s office.
