Creating Health Care Options
It’s good to be back to work after the legislative spring break last week. With only eight weeks left in the session, the Senate is moving forward on many bills including some of my own.
This week the Senate discussed my Senate Bill 79 and passed it on to the House. This bill makes it so a health care benefit plan provided by an organization will not always be considered as insurance. This is mainly to allow organizations like the Missouri Farm Bureau to offer an alternative to the Affordable Care Act Marketplace (ACA). The ACA does not work for all individuals and families, especially those who have variable income that would have them hopscotching from one bracket to another every year like farmers and small business owners. I believe this will help those who would not qualify for the ACA or who would end up going uninsured.
By allowing these health care benefit plans to not be considered insurance it allows for more specialized services. This would not force anyone to get this type of health care nor would it hinder anyone’s ability to get healthcare through the ACA. It simply provides options.
I believe everyone should have access to healthcare that they can afford and that will cater to their needs. I think this bill will do just that for many Missourians.
