Ensuring Rights for Inmates
Hello, from your favorite Senator Angela Mosley! I wanted to update you as the Senate returns from our legislative spring break.
The Judiciary and Civil and Criminal Jurisprudence Committee heard my Senate Bill 378. This bill will provide oversight over the Department of Corrections and ensure inmates rights are not trampled over while imprisoned. It would create an office within the department with the direct responsibility of ensuring the living quality of inmates. This unit would also conduct inspections and develop reports to establish accountability and fight against any abuse, harassment or medical negligence. I believe this will ensure the civil rights of inmates and make sure they can focus on rehabilitation rather than survival.
This is a bill I have worked on for years and I am glad it has finally had the opportunity to be heard in committee.
I also attended the Black Caucus Women’s History Month Luncheon this past week which honored various Lincoln University Athletes, and I had the chance to speak with 3rd to 5th graders visiting the capitol with 4-H, signing each of their cards and answering any questions they had.
Also, with all of the storms in Missouri this time of year, I wanted to share a resource with you from the Missouri Department of Commerce and Insurance to help you file claims.

I am also happy to share this community resource fair with you, where you can come to receive free books and food as well as health screenings and vaccines.
