Looking Over the Summer

Hello from your favorite Senator Angela Mosley!

Senator Mosley speaks in opposition to state redistricting.

First, I want to address the current efforts of the majority party to redistrict parts of our state. The Missouri Black Legislative Caucus stands united against any attempt to redraw Missouri's congressional map to flip one of Missouri’s seats in the United States House of Representatives that is currently held by a member of the minority. In 2022, the Senate Minority Caucus fought hard in the Senate to preserve the map giving the congressional majority six seats and the minority two, and we are prepared to fight again. We will not allow outside agendas to dictate what happens in our state!

Sen. Mosley stands with other leaders of the community at the RECA Town Hall.

In the last few weeks, I have hosted multiple events meant to strengthen and assist members of our community.

Most recently, I hosted a special town hall meeting to discuss additional changes to the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act (RECA). It was recently determined that Coldwater Creek was contaminated with nuclear waste, making those impacted or their families eligible for financial compensation under RECA. Those who may have been impacted need to still apply for compensation though. If you feel you were impacted, please apply.

In addition, I held the 15th Annual Community Resource Fair & Backpack Giveaway. It was wonderful to help kids get ready for school with new haircuts and backpacks. Of course, they weren’t the only ones to benefit as organizations within the community came to provide utility assistance, workforce development, voter registration and information on important programs like Medicare and Medicaid. I appreciate all the resources that were provided and all the partners who helped make this event a reality.

I appreciate everyone who has come out to help and benefit from these events and am grateful for our vibrant community. We are stronger as a community when we stand together.

Also, during the month of August, I was honored to present a resolution to Kyddie Karnival STEAM Academy.  I believe they have made a difference by creating a fun and engaging environment where our children can learn, grow, and explore the world of science, technology, engineering, arts, and math.

I also visited University of Missouri - St. Louis (UMSL) to learn about and tour the new Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients Innovation Center. Our guide gave an insightful look at the facility and shared how it will help create life-changing pharmaceuticals right here in our region. I am excited to see innovation like this happening in our community!

Finally, I want to let you know SchoolSafety.gov has launched its Back-to-School Campaign to help fight drug use in our youth. They have over forty resources aimed at students from kindergarten to high school. You can access this material at schoolsafety.gov/back-to-school-campaign.

Senator Mosley celebrated the 60th anniversary for Head Start.
