The 2nd Extraordinary Session of 2025

A crowd of people in a buildingAI-generated content may be incorrect.Hello from your favorite Senator Angela Mosley! I am excited to share some very important and exciting events taking place in our community this week. Unfortunately, I must also fill you in on the second extraordinary session that has been called by the governor and taken place over the last week.

Despite a significant amount of rhetoric over the last several years that Missouri does not give in to the demands of Washington D.C., it seems to me that the Legislature was called back into session at the suggestion of the White House. We are being tasked with redrawing Missouri’s congressional district lines. From where I stand, it is no secret that the goal of this endeavor is to gain more seats for the slim majority in the U.S. House of Representatives. The new lines being proposed would break up the current district that currently represents the Kansas City area as a whole. Instead, the metro area would be portioned off and joined with more rural communities.

Urban communities and rural communities have different needs and often different values. Our entire political system was designed for every community to be represented at the city, state and federal levels. This plan goes against the very heart of our democracy and aims to take away the voice of one the country’s largest cities. My colleagues and I stand ready to fight this

injustice for as long as it takes and, I am hopeful, let common sense rule the day.

While I am disappointed in the reason for being back at the Capitol, I was proud of the thousands of people who came out to peacefully protest this extra session and stand behind the effort to protect all Missouri voices in Congress.
