The Governor’s Appointments Confirmed I am happy to say session has truly begun as the first bills were discussed on the Senate floor this week. In addition, the gubernatorial appointments that have been held up for nearly the last month have moved forward and were confirmed by the Senate. Every year the governor appoints a number of individuals to over 175 different boards, commissions and organizations in the state. Each appointee must meet the requirements of the given commission or board, and must also be presented to the Senate in a committee hearing. The Senate then vets and confirms each appointee. This past week, a very large group of nominees were finally confirmed by the Senate. I am happy to stand with all the individuals from our district who the governor appointed this session. They include William Eckart to the Elevator Safety Board, Kelly Frisella to the State Board of Optometry, Jeffery Davis to the Southeast Missouri State University Board of Governors, Lyle Rosburg to the Missouri Health Facilities Review Committee, David Williams and Christopher Schappe to the Board of Probation and Parole, Linel Dozier to the Board of Cosmetology and Barber Examiners, and Colonel Mark McCarter was reappointed to the Child Abuse and Neglect Review Board. In addition, one of the bills presented this week was my very own Senate Bill 937, which simply allows the state to sell a number of properties across the state. This bill was third read and passed by the Senate and will soon go before the Missouri House of Representatives. Overall, the wheels of session continue forward, and I anticipate a smoother process in the coming weeks. Please feel free to contact my office at 573-751-2076.
