Senator Mary Elizabeth Coleman’s Education Freedom Bill to Fund Students Crosses Another Hurdle
JEFFERSON CITY — State Sen. Mary Elizabeth Coleman, R-Arnold, is proud to announce her education freedom bill to fund students, Senate Bill 81, was approved by the Senate Education and Workforce Development Committee on Tuesday, Jan. 31.
Senate Bill 81 would allow parents to send their child to whichever qualified Missouri public, private or parochial school best serves their needs, and the state’s share of educational funding would follow the child. The Senate Education and Workforce Development Committee voted SB81 from committee after adopting a substitute which removed any reference to homeschooling.
“State government should be working for Missouri’s families with solution-focused policies that actually make a difference in their lives,” Sen. Coleman said. “We can and should give parents the freedom to send their kids to the school of their choice.”
Senate Bill 81 must be reported from committee before the entire Senate body can begin to debate the legislation.
