Senator Doug Beck Advances Legislation to Promote the Entertainment Industry in Missouri

Jefferson City — State Sen. Doug Beck, D-Affton, advanced two of his priority pieces of legislation by presenting the proposals to members of the Senate Economic Development and Tax Policy Committee on Jan. 30. During the hearing, Sen. Beck explained the benefits of Senate Bill 57, which would establish the Entertainment Industry Jobs Act and create a tax credit for qualified rehearsal and tour expenses associated with live entertainment. Additionally, he presented Senate Bill 58 to reauthorize a tax credit which expired in 2013 that would promote motion media production in Missouri.

“Missouri’s central location and beautiful topography make it the perfect venue for entertainment and motion picture production,” said Sen. Beck.  “Besides creating jobs and spurring economic development opportunities, this legislation will attract concerts and other forms of entertainment, while incentivizing artists to perform here.”

Both of these measures have broad support from advocates and professionals in the entertainment industry and will help support the existing businesses in Branson, Kansas City and St. Louis.
