Senator Doug Beck Advances Legislation to Safeguard Abused Children
Jefferson City — Senator Doug Beck, D-Affton, presented legislation to safeguard children who have been sexually abused by a parent to the Senate Progress and Development Committee on Feb. 22.
Under Senate Bill 213, courts are prohibited from awarding unsupervised visitation, custody or guardianship to a parent who has been found guilty of sexually abusing their child or sexually assaulting the mother of their child.
“Protecting children is paramount, especially those who have been sexually abused by the person who is supposed to protect them,” said Sen. Beck. “The last thing survivors of these incorrigible acts need is to be forced into a relationship with their abuser.”
