Senator Curtis Trent’s Legislative Column for Feb. 3, 2023

Friday, February 3, 2023

It is an immense honor to represent you in the Missouri Senate, and I am humbled to serve as your voice in state government. If you are ever planning to be in Jefferson City, feel free to contact my office for a visit and schedule a tour of our beautiful State Capitol Building. My staff and I would love to meet with you!

It is hard to believe, but my fellow senators and I have completed the first month of session. After a couple of weeks of committee hearings, we were finally able to debate legislation on the Senate floor. This week, we gave first round approval to Senate Bills 3 & 69. This legislation establishes the “Regulatory Sandbox Act,” which creates the Regulatory Relief Office in the Missouri Department of Economic Development. Businesses can apply to be a part of this program for two years while they develop an innovative product for consumers. This bill authorizes the Regulatory Relief Office to identify state laws or regulations that could potentially be waived or suspended during that two-year period.

Earlier last month, I was honored to be chosen by Senate leadership to serve as vice-chairman of the Senate Insurance and Banking Committee. It is an exciting opportunity, and I am thankful for the trust placed in me to serve in this important role.
