Senator Angela Mosley is a trailblazer in Missouri politics, fighting relentlessly for elders, children, veterans and individuals with disabilities, as well as for access to healthcare and the strength of public schools. Since taking office on January 6, 2021, she has been a fearless voice for the people of the 13th Senatorial District, making history as the first Black person elected to represent the district in the Missouri Senate. Her leadership continues a proud family legacy of public service, following in the footsteps of her father, late stepmother, sister, brother-in-law, husband, and now her daughter, all of whom have served in the Missouri House of Representatives.

Born to former State Representative Elbert A. Walton, Jr., and Sandra Walton, a retired school teacher, Senator Mosley was raised in the Walnut Park neighborhood of St. Louis. She is a proud graduate of Central Visual and Performing Arts High School and earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Grambling State University, a distinguished Historically Black College and University (HBCU). Her background fuels her passion for education, ensuring that every child—regardless of zip code—has access to a strong public school system.

With over three decades of legislative experience, Senator Mosley is a relentless advocate for labor unions, workers’ rights, gun violence prevention and the dignity and well-being of seniors. She has also championed critical public safety legislation, successfully passing legislation, which creates a task force for Missing and Murdered African American Women and Girls. This legislation brings long-overdue attention and action to a crisis that has devastated families and communities, ensuring that victims receive justice and that prevention efforts are prioritized.

Her personal journey is a testament to resilience and leadership. Married for 30 years to former State Representative Jay Mosley, she and her husband made history as the first married couple to serve simultaneously in the Missouri Legislature. Together, they passed House Bill 402, a groundbreaking law protecting the privacy of lottery winners, reinforcing their unwavering commitment to the people’s rights.

Senator Mosley is deeply committed to her community, organizing town halls, resource fairs, and critical health initiatives—including the first mass COVID-19 vaccination event in North County, ensuring vulnerable communities received life-saving protection. Her work is driven by an unshakable belief that government should uplift and protect those it serves, not abandon them.

A devoted mother of three—State Representative Chanel Mosley, Janay, and Jermond—and a loving grandmother of two, Senator Mosley’s legacy is one of service, strength and unwavering advocacy for the people of Missouri.
